Colin Jost has revealed that his wife, Scarlett Johansson, plays a major role in shaping his personal style, joking that she has complete control over what he wears.
The Saturday Night Live (SNL) star opened up about his fashion choices and gift-giving habits while promoting his appearance in Kay Jewelers’ holiday advertising campaign, titled “Love All In.” The campaign follows a humorous story about someone going to extraordinary lengths to find the perfect gift for a loved one, highlighting the importance of thoughtful gestures during the holiday season.
During the conversation, Jost was asked whether Johansson has influenced his approach to fashion and personal accessories. The comedian responded humorously, saying that his style is “exclusively managed by her,” suggesting that his wife has considerable control over his wardrobe decisions.
The 44-year-old comedian also shared an interesting detail about his relationship with watches. He revealed that he did not own a watch until approximately five years ago, when Johansson gifted him his first one.
Jost explained that he generally prefers simple and understated jewellery rather than flashy accessories. He particularly likes minimal gold pieces that complement his everyday appearance without attracting too much attention.
Beyond discussing fashion, the comedian also reflected on his approach to buying presents for friends and family. According to him, the value of a gift does not necessarily depend on its price. Instead, he believes that thoughtfulness is what makes a present meaningful.
He explained that gifts at every price level can either be thoughtful or disappointing, depending on the effort behind them.
Jost also recalled an unusual present he once gave his Saturday Night Live colleague Michael Che. The comedian revealed that he gifted Che a large velociraptor statue, which has become something of a problem because it is difficult to get rid of.
Joking about the unusual gift, Jost explained that the main expense was actually the shipping cost rather than the item itself.
When discussing the challenges of holiday shopping, the comedian admitted that his father is probably the most difficult person in his family to buy presents for.
He explained that his father always claims he does not want anything, making it particularly challenging to find something suitable for him. Although Jost believes his father genuinely means what he says, he admitted that such responses offer very little guidance when choosing a gift.
The comedian also shared his opinion about wish lists, suggesting that adults should be more open to surprises rather than telling others exactly what they want.
In his view, gift-giving becomes more enjoyable when people put some thought into selecting something unexpected for their loved ones.
As for his own holiday wishes, Jost revealed that material possessions are no longer his biggest priority. Instead, he would rather receive memorable experiences that allow him to enjoy meaningful moments.
His comments offered a glimpse into his relationship with Johansson, highlighting her influence on his everyday choices as well as his lighthearted approach to family life and gift-giving.
