MARDAN – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have arrested a serving constable in connection with the murder of a Sikh couple in Baboo Mohalla, Mardan, solving the case within a day of the incident.
Police officials said the suspect allegedly shot dead Jagannath, a gurdwara caretaker (sewadar), and his wife Asawanti at their home on Wednesday.
Mardan DPO Masood Ahmad Bangash told a press briefing that the arrest was made after swift investigation using CCTV footage, mobile phone data, and other technical evidence.
Investigators believe the motive stemmed from a personal grudge. The accused was previously deployed at the local gurdwara but was transferred about three years ago, which reportedly led to long-standing resentment.
Authorities said coordinated police efforts helped trace and detain the suspect within 24 hours of the incident.
Further investigations are underway, and officials have assured that a complete charge sheet will be submitted in court to ensure legal proceedings are carried out on merit.
The incident had caused concern within the Sikh community and raised questions about security in the area.
