KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), in coordination with federal and civilian intelligence agencies, arrested four suspected militants during separate operations at two locations in Karachi, recovering four hand grenades and a pistol from their possession.
According to a CTD spokesperson, security personnel carried out one operation near Block 4 on Abul Hasan Isphani Road, where they arrested three suspects allegedly affiliated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). In a separate raid near the Korangi Causeway stream, the authorities arrested another suspect allegedly linked to the banned Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA).
The CTD said the arrests followed intelligence-based operations aimed at disrupting suspected militant activities in the city. Investigators believe the suspects were planning attacks on sensitive installations and law enforcement agencies.
The department also alleged that the arrested individuals had links to attacks on mobile vehicles belonging to the Frontier Corps (FC) and Customs authorities in Balochistan. Officials are investigating the suspects’ alleged involvement in these incidents and their possible connections with other militant operatives.
The recovery of four hand grenades and a pistol has added to the investigation as authorities seek to establish the suspects’ intended targets and the extent of their activities. However, the allegations against the arrested individuals will be subject to further investigation and legal proceedings.
The CTD spokesperson confirmed that legal action against the suspects has begun. Meanwhile, investigators are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend their alleged accomplices and facilitators.
The department said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to prevent militant attacks, protect sensitive installations and strengthen security across Karachi. Further details about the identities of the suspects and the progress of the investigation have not yet been disclosed.
