CTD Karachi arrests suicide bomber in Joint Intelligence Operation

Karachi – The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh in coordination with federal civilian intelligence agencies has achieved a significant breakthrough by conducting a joint operation against suspected militants linked to banned organizations.

During the operation, an alleged suicide bomber identified as Salman alias Abu Huraira was arrested while a wanted terrorist, Zafran alias Abu Huraira was reportedly killed in an encounter.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the arrested suspect Salman alias Abu Huraira is a member of a suicide cell and a close associate of the highly wanted terrorist Zafran. The suspect is accused of involvement along with his accomplices, in a firing incident near Liberty Textile Mills in Karachi’s SITE-A area where foreign nationals were targeted and several people were injured.

The spokesperson further stated that a prepared suicide jacket, photographs of sensitive locations and maps were recovered from the suspect during the operation. Authorities believe the suspect had received commando-style suicide attack training in Afghanistan and was planning a large-scale suicide attack in Karachi.

It was also revealed that other members of the group have been involved in multiple suicide and targeted killing incidents. One associate was killed in a suicide attack on the FC in Quetta in 2025 while another was killed in the same year during an explosion at the Dera Ismail Khan Police Training Center.

According to CTD officials, the group was operating under the command of handlers based in Afghanistan and was initially planning targeted killings in Karachi followed by larger suicide attacks. Cases have been registered against the arrested suspect at the CTD police station Karachi under the Anti-Terrorism Act and other relevant provisions.

Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway and joint teams of the CTD and intelligence agencies are conducting raids in various areas to arrest other accomplices and facilitators.

The CTD reaffirmed its commitment to continue operations against terrorist networks until their complete eradication ensuring peace and security in the city at all costs.
