KARACHI: Customs officials have seized 14 brand-new iPhone 18 Pro Max smartphones and two bottles of liquor from a passenger who arrived in Karachi from Hong Kong via Colombo, officials said.
According to a Customs spokesperson, the passenger became suspicious after noticing that he was being monitored and went into a public washroom.
He reportedly remained inside for around 20 minutes before returning. Customs officials subsequently searched him and recovered two bottles of liquor from his possession.
During further questioning, the passenger admitted that he was also carrying 14 new mobile phones.
Officials said the smartphones had been concealed underneath a toilet in the public washroom. The passenger allegedly planned to retrieve the devices and take them away after completing the customs clearance process.
The seized goods, including the smartphones and liquor, have an estimated combined value of around Rs5 million, according to the Customs spokesperson.
The officials said further proceedings would be carried out in accordance with the relevant customs laws and regulations.
The incident highlights the efforts of customs authorities to detect attempts to conceal undeclared goods and prevent their illegal movement through the country’s entry points.
