Dar stresses uninterrupted energy supplies in Iran call

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stressed the need for uninterrupted energy supplies and safe movement of commercial vessels during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two diplomats discussed the latest developments in the region. Dar highlighted the importance of keeping energy supplies flowing and ensuring the safe and speedy passage of ships, particularly because disruptions could affect developing countries and global supply chains.

Dar said dialogue and diplomacy remained essential for maintaining peace and stability in the region. The two sides also agreed to continue close coordination and meet in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly next week.

The conversation took place amid growing concerns over disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. Both waterways are major routes for international trade and energy supplies.

The situation has raised concerns about its possible impact on oil exports and global energy markets. Fears of further disruption have also increased following developments involving the Houthis along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and around Bab al-Mandab.

Pakistan recently condemned attacks on merchant vessels in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and called for an immediate end to such incidents. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned that attacks and disruptions involving commercial shipping could affect energy prices and global food security.

He said Pakistan’s approach to maritime security was also linked to its diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States. Islamabad has called for regional disputes to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Interior Ministry said efforts were continuing to address outstanding issues and revive an understanding reached between Tehran and Washington in June. Iranian officials have called on the other side to honour its commitments under the agreement.
