During a visit to the shrine, Dr Bhutta reviewed progress on the major development project and inspected arrangements for opening a passage connecting the central shrine to the courtyard. He directed the relevant departments and contractors to ensure high construction standards, safe pedestrian movement and convenient access for visitors.
He said the teachings of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) represent an important part of the subcontinent’s spiritual, moral and intellectual heritage. His message of love, tolerance, compassion, brotherhood and service to humanity continues to inspire people and promote peace, social harmony and interfaith understanding.
Dr Bhutta described Data Darbar as a significant spiritual centre that provides solace and guidance to millions of devotees. He stressed that preserving the legacy of eminent Sufi saints and maintaining their shrines were essential responsibilities.
During the inspection, officials from the Communications and Works (C&W) Department, the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), the Auqaf Department and other relevant agencies briefed him on construction activities, technical matters and the project’s overall progress.
Those present included C&W Superintendent Engineer Essa bin Mueen, Executive Engineer Fahad Naveed, SDO Zohaib, NESPAK General Manager Adil Nazir, Data Darbar Administrator Muhammad Ali Khan and other members of the technical team.
Appreciating the efforts of the Auqaf Department and the executing agencies, particularly TEPA and C&W, Dr Bhutta called for effective coordination among the departments to ensure timely and quality completion of the work.
He emphasised that visitors’ safety, comfort and uninterrupted movement must be ensured throughout construction, while the sanctity of the shrine must remain protected.
During his visit, Dr Bhutta also offered prayers and recited Fateha at the shrine, praying for Pakistan’s security, stability, progress and prosperity.
He reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to providing all possible support for the successful completion of the project, saying the initiative would improve facilities for pilgrims and help make the historic shrine more organised, secure and accessible.
