KARACHI: A Judicial Magistrate South court in Karachi has granted a three-day physical remand of two suspects, Waqar and Ibrahim, in connection with an alleged assault case involving a young man in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area.

The suspects were produced before the court by Sahil Police following the registration of a first information report (FIR) at Sahil Police Station. The case was registered over allegations including kidnapping and torture. The alleged victim has been identified as Syed Ali Jafri.

During the hearing, the investigating officer requested the physical remand of the suspects, stating that their custody was required for further investigation and interrogation. Police also sought time to recover the alleged instrument used in the incident and to examine other evidence linked to the case.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court approved a three-day physical remand of the two suspects. The suspects are expected to be produced before the court again after the completion of the remand period.

Defense Raises Questions Over Viral Video

During the proceedings, the defense counsel strongly disputed the authenticity of a video that has recently circulated widely on social media.

The lawyers representing the suspects told the court that the viral footage was allegedly created or manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) and did not accurately depict the incident in question. The defense further argued that the case had allegedly been registered under pressure on the victim.

“We maintain that the footage is not authentic and was created to implicate our clients,” the defense counsel told the court, while urging authorities to investigate the origin and authenticity of the digital material before drawing conclusions from it.

The defense’s position has placed the authenticity of the video at the centre of the ongoing investigation, particularly as the footage has attracted considerable attention on social media.

Victim’s Counsel Seeks Forensic Analysis

Counsel representing the alleged victim, Talha Baloch, rejected the defense’s claims and called for a detailed forensic examination of the viral footage.

Baloch urged the court to direct the relevant authorities to conduct a forensic audit of the video to determine whether it had been digitally altered, manipulated or generated through artificial intelligence.

He also requested the recovery of the alleged instrument used during the assault, arguing that physical and digital evidence should be examined together to establish what happened.

“The truth can only be established through forensic analysis and proper investigation of the evidence,” Baloch told the court.

Police Continue Investigation

Sources familiar with the matter told Minute Mirror that police officials, including the DIG South are continuing to investigate the incident and are examining both the viral footage and the circumstances surrounding the dispute between the parties.

According to police, the FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s side. Investigators have also been examining evidence collected during the initial stage of the probe, including digital records and information gathered from the scene.

Officials said the investigation will focus on determining the authenticity of the video, locating and recovering the alleged instrument involved in the incident, and establishing the circumstances and motive behind the alleged assault.

Case Draws Public Attention

The case has attracted significant public interest after the alleged assault video circulated on social media. The dispute has also raised broader questions about the reliability of digital evidence and the increasing use of AI-generated or manipulated content.

Police officials have maintained that the matter will be investigated in accordance with the law and that evidence will be examined before reaching any final conclusion.

The suspects, Waqar and Ibrahim, will be presented before the court again after the completion of their three-day physical remand, when investigators are expected to provide an update on the progress of the probe.
