Dolly Parton’s estate has withdrawn its lawsuit against her nephew and former head of security, Bryan Seaver, bringing an unexpected pause to a family dispute that has attracted considerable public attention.
She’s Alive, LLC, the company established by the late country music legend to manage and protect her business interests following her death on August 25, filed a notice of voluntary dismissal in a Tennessee Chancery Court on Thursday, November 5. The decision came after several weeks of legal disagreements between the company and Seaver.
The lawsuit was dismissed without prejudice, meaning the company retains the right to bring the case again in the future. However, the latest development marks a significant change in a dispute that had previously involved allegations of threats, workplace tensions and possible damage to Parton’s business reputation.
She’s Alive is managed by Parton’s longtime manager, Danny Nozell. The company had taken legal action against Seaver after ending his employment in September. He had served as his aunt’s head of security for more than two decades and had maintained a close professional relationship with the singer.
Following the dismissal, Seaver’s attorney welcomed the decision and expressed his client’s desire to move beyond the disagreement. In a statement, the lawyer said Seaver deeply cared about his aunt, her music, family and the legacy she had built throughout her career.
The attorney also described the development as an opportunity for the family to put the misunderstanding behind them and continue grieving peacefully. He added that Seaver wanted Parton’s legacy to remain respected and unaffected by the legal dispute.
Representatives and attorneys for both sides had not immediately provided further comments regarding the decision.
The legal battle began after She’s Alive accused Seaver of making threatening and intimidating statements towards people associated with Parton’s estate. The company alleged that he used references to his military background while making threats and that his behaviour contributed to several employees leaving their positions.
The company also claimed that Seaver threatened to damage Parton’s business partnerships and professional reputation through statements he allegedly planned to make on a podcast. Among the accusations was an alleged warning that he could destroy the singer’s brand.
However, Seaver strongly denied making threats or attempting to harm his aunt’s business interests. He argued that private conversations with Nozell had been presented without their proper context. Although he acknowledged using inappropriate and profane language during their exchanges, he maintained that their conversations were ultimately friendly.
In an October court filing, Seaver also raised concerns about the temporary restraining order issued against him. He argued that the restrictions were negatively affecting his personal life and interfering with his position as a beneficiary of Parton’s trust.
In a statement included in a filing dated October 13, Seaver expressed his continued respect and affection for his aunt, saying he did not want the disagreement to damage her music, family or professional legacy.
Several court hearings had previously been postponed and rescheduled, with another hearing initially expected to take place on November 13.
The family disagreement also became a subject of public discussion after Seaver shared a Facebook message on October 26 written by his mother, Cassie, who is Parton’s younger sister.
In her message, Cassie spoke about her love for her son and defended the special relationship he shared with the late singer. She described their bond as meaningful and highlighted the important role Seaver had played in Parton’s life.
The latest court development leaves the possibility of further legal action open, while the family continues to navigate the loss of the celebrated singer.
