Dolly Parton’s estate sues nephew over alleged threats

Dolly Parton’s estate has filed a lawsuit against her nephew and former head of security, Bryan Seaver, accusing him of making threats of violence and intimidation while allegedly demanding money following the singer’s death.

According to court documents, Seaver allegedly began a campaign of threats, intimidation and coercion weeks before Parton died on August 25. The filing claims he became aware that the country music icon’s death could be imminent and subsequently began making demands involving her estate.

The documents allege that Seaver repeatedly referred to his claimed military and security experience, access to weapons and alleged ability to use violence in an attempt to pressure Parton’s estate into meeting his financial demands.

Seaver had reportedly worked as Parton’s head of security for more than 20 years. During that time, he was closely connected to the singer and her team. However, following the events described in the complaint, his relationship with the estate allegedly became increasingly hostile.

Court filings claim Seaver described himself as an “international arms dealer and mercenary” and allegedly spoke about seeking revenge against people he believed had betrayed his family.

In one alleged conversation with Parton’s longtime manager Danny Nozell, Seaver reportedly made threatening remarks about spending years seeking vengeance.

“I am [seeking] vengeance for my people for the next 50 years,” he allegedly said, according to the filing. He also reportedly referred to owning swords and guns while describing himself as someone focused on warfare and retaliation.

The documents further allege that Seaver warned people around Parton’s estate that they should be concerned about what he might do.

In a September 3 email allegedly sent to Parton’s attorney, Seaver reportedly described himself as “a killer.” He also allegedly claimed that he had sold $27 million worth of arms and ammunition to Haitian police on the same day Parton died.

Another alleged threat reportedly came on September 1, when Seaver warned that he could become the “hand of retribution” for his family. The complaint claims he also threatened to target people connected to the estate if he believed Parton’s money was not sufficient.

The allegations have also raised concerns among employees associated with Parton’s business operations.

According to a September 22 complaint, several employees at Parton’s She’s Alive, LLC allegedly resigned because they feared Seaver and people described in the filing as his “heavily-armed confederates.”

Seaver was reportedly dismissed from his position on September 16, 2026, after more than two decades working as Parton’s head of security. His termination came as tensions between him and the estate allegedly escalated.

The lawsuit seeks legal protection against Seaver amid the allegations of threats, intimidation and attempted extortion. The estate has asked the court to intervene and restrict his alleged conduct.

The accusations remain allegations, and the court proceedings will determine the facts and any legal responsibility. Seaver’s statements and actions described in the filings have not, by themselves, established that he committed the alleged conduct.

The dispute comes after the death of Parton, whose decades-long career made her one of the most recognizable figures in country music. Her estate is now facing a legal battle involving a former longtime member of her security team, with allegations that the relationship deteriorated into threats and demands for money.

As the case proceeds, the court is expected to consider the estate’s request for protection and the allegations surrounding Seaver’s conduct in the weeks before and after Parton’s death.
