Elon Musk has taken the first step towards his promise to create a full-length AI-generated adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, sharing a seven-minute video produced with Grok Imagine.
The technology entrepreneur previously pledged to release a historically accurate film based on the ancient Greek poem before the end of 2026. He announced the project after criticising creative decisions in Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of the same story.
Musk had said that Grok Imagine, an artificial intelligence tool developed by his company, would be used to produce the feature-length project while remaining faithful to Homer’s original work.
In his latest update, Musk shared a video described as the first episode of the planned The Odyssey series. The announcement invited viewers to watch the episode and share their thoughts on whether they would like a detailed explanation of how it was created.
The project also involves creative collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, according to Musk’s announcement.
Musk’s plans emerged after Nolan’s The Odyssey attracted attention for its interpretation of the ancient Greek epic. The film, released in July, became one of the director’s major box-office successes.
However, Musk questioned some of the adaptation’s casting choices, arguing that the production had departed from historical accuracy. He particularly criticised the casting of Lupita Nyong’o and Elliot Page in the film.
His comments about Helen of Troy, a central figure in Greek mythology traditionally celebrated for her legendary beauty, also drew attention. Musk argued that the character’s portrayal should reflect traditional descriptions of her appearance.
With the release of the seven-minute video, Musk has offered an initial glimpse of how generative AI could be used to create a longer cinematic production inspired by classical literature.
It remains unclear when the next episodes will be released or whether the project will develop into the full-length film Musk promised by the end of the year.
