Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as an important step towards promoting global peace and regional stability.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Istanbul alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Erdoğan said Türkiye would continue to support all efforts aimed at peace, prosperity and dialogue.

He praised Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives and said Ankara appreciated Islamabad’s role in encouraging regional understanding and cooperation.

The Turkish president welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistani delegation to Türkiye and described relations between the two countries as strong and historic.

Erdoğan said the two leaders held extensive discussions on bilateral relations, regional developments and major international issues.

According to the Turkish president, both sides reviewed progress made in recent years and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation in multiple sectors.

He said special attention was given to trade, investment and economic partnerships between the two countries.

The two leaders also discussed increasing commercial activities and creating new opportunities for businesses and investors from both countries.

Erdoğan expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in relations between Türkiye and Pakistan and said both governments remained committed to expanding cooperation in all fields.

He added that the relevant ministries and institutions of both countries would continue close coordination on projects related to Special Economic Zones and industrial cooperation.

The Turkish president said Türkiye and Pakistan have always stood together during difficult times and would continue supporting each other in the future.

Addressing the media on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Erdoğan for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and his delegation.

The prime minister said the people of Pakistan and Türkiye enjoy deep-rooted historical, cultural and brotherly relations that have grown stronger over decades.

He said the friendship between the two countries has stood the test of time and continues to serve as an example of mutual trust and solidarity.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that Türkiye has always supported Pakistan during wars, natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.

He particularly recalled Turkish assistance during devastating floods that affected several parts of Pakistan, including the district of Muzaffargarh.

The prime minister said the support provided by Türkiye to flood victims had become an important part of the shared history between the two nations.

He also thanked the Turkish government and people for their assistance in earthquake-affected areas and their contribution to reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.

According to the prime minister, Turkish support has played an important role in promoting social and economic development in affected regions.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening strategic cooperation with Türkiye in trade, investment, defence, education and regional connectivity.
