Gmail to introduce AI voice search for emails

Google is continuing to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) features across its services and it has now introduced a new AI-powered feature for Gmail. The new feature called Gmail Live has currently been rolled out to a limited number of users.

According to a report by 9to5Google, Gmail Live is available in beta for Android and iOS devices. The feature allows users to search their Gmail inbox using only their voice eliminating the need to type search queries.

Gmail Live is similar to Gemini Live, Google’s AI feature that enables real-time voice conversations with the Gemini AI chatbot. The report states that the feature is expected to expand to Google Docs and Google Drive in the coming months.

Gmail Live is designed to make email searches faster and more convenient. Once the feature becomes available, users will see a Live icon along with the Gemini button when they tap the Gmail search bar.

Selecting the icon will launch Gmail Live in full-screen mode where users can give voice commands to Gemini to find specific emails or search through email content.

Google first announced the Gemini-powered feature during its annual developer conference in May 2026 and it has now begun rolling it out gradually. Initially, when Gmail Live is fully released, it will be available only to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
