Pakistani actor and singer Farhan Saeed has opened up about the emotional impact of portraying Anas in the drama Bas Tera Saath Ho, revealing that the strong reaction to his character from viewers began affecting his own mood and behaviour.

Speaking during a media interaction for the drama, Saeed discussed the intense response the series has received as it approaches its final week. He said the criticism and online bullying aimed at Anas became so persistent that people close to him noticed a change in his behaviour.

“The drama itself has become a drama. People around me also told me that I started to get very irritated because of the constant bullying,” Saeed said.

The actor also acknowledged that playing the emotionally troubled character had affected him personally. “I also got trauma from playing this character, myself,” he added.

Bas Tera Saath Ho stars Saeed opposite Sana Javed, with Saeed portraying Anas, an orphan whose life takes a difficult turn after discovering that the relatives who raised him have been manipulating him and attempting to exploit his family property.

As the story progresses, Anas crosses paths with Ansa, played by Sana Javed, and begins opening up about the difficult experiences he has faced throughout his life. Their relationship gradually develops into a close bond, although Anas continues to keep some aspects of his past and personal struggles to himself.

The character has generated a mixed response among viewers. While some audiences have criticised the pace and direction of the drama, others have appreciated the portrayal of a male protagonist who is emotionally vulnerable rather than being presented as a conventional heroic figure.

One viewer defended Saeed’s portrayal, arguing that his performance was convincing and that not every television drama needs a stereotypical hero who suddenly transforms overnight. The viewer suggested that the central message was more focused on sharing, empathy and understanding.

At the same time, other viewers have raised questions about the development of the storyline, with some suggesting that the drama could have concentrated more closely on its central conflict and the journeys of its main characters.

Saeed had previously spoken about the significance of Anas in an interview with BBC Urdu, where he challenged the commonly held perception that men are expected to hide their emotions. He questioned the idea that “men don’t feel pain or they don’t cry” and spoke about the importance of recognising male vulnerability and emotional struggles.

The actor also revealed that he had initially been hesitant about accepting the role because Anas was significantly different from the characters he had portrayed previously. However, messages from viewers eventually showed him that the character had connected with many people.

According to Saeed, several fans contacted him to share how closely they related to Anas and the hardships he experienced throughout the drama. Their responses helped demonstrate that, despite criticism of the series, the character’s emotional struggles had resonated with a section of the audience.

As Bas Tera Saath Ho moves towards its conclusion, Saeed continues to work on both acting and music. He recently released the songs Pul Gulab Da and Beparwah, while the drama’s title track, performed by Saeed, was released in May this year.
