Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has been found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup. The Pakistan captain has been fined 10% of her match fee following an incident during the team’s match against India.

According to the ICC, Fatima Sana committed a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct during the match. The incident occurred after Indian batter Shafali Verma was dismissed.

Following the wicket, Fatima Sana made a gesture towards the pavilion. The ICC considered the gesture a violation of its Code of Conduct and subsequently imposed a fine on the Pakistan captain.

In addition to the financial penalty Fatima Sana has also received one demerit point for the offence. The sanction was imposed after the Pakistan captain admitted to the violation and accepted the charge.

Level 1 offences under the ICC Code of Conduct generally involve less serious breaches of the rules with penalties ranging from an official reprimand to fines and demerit points depending on the nature of the incident.

The development comes as Pakistan continues its campaign in the Women’s Asia Cup with Fatima Sana leading the national side in the regional tournament. The Pakistan captain has been an important figure for the team both on and off the field.

The incident involving Shafali Verma’s dismissal has attracted attention because of the intense rivalry between Pakistan and India in international cricket. However, Fatima Sana’s acceptance of the charge means the matter has now been formally dealt with under the ICC disciplinary process.

The 10% fine will be deducted from Fatima Sana’s match fee while the one demerit point will be added to her disciplinary record.

The ICC Code of Conduct is designed to maintain professional standards and sportsmanship among international players and officials. Players can receive sanctions for inappropriate gestures, conduct or other breaches during matches.

Despite the disciplinary action Fatima Sana remains available to lead Pakistan in the remainder of the Women’s Asia Cup campaign unless further disciplinary issues arise.
