Speaking during a programme, Shoaib Akhtar said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appeared disappointed with the performances of the current squad and was considering major changes to the team.

The former fast bowler said Pakistan needed to provide opportunities to younger players who were willing to play with commitment and put the team’s interests first.

Akhtar also highlighted three fast bowlers whose careers he believes deserve special attention. He said he wanted to “save” the careers of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, arguing that all three still have a great deal to offer Pakistan cricket.

According to Akhtar, the trio possess the ability to make a significant contribution to the national side if their careers are managed properly.

Notably, Babar Azam was not included among the players mentioned by Akhtar.

The former Pakistan captain is currently part of the Test setup and has come under increased scrutiny following a difficult period for the national team.

Babar missed Pakistan’s first Test against England because of injury. He returned for the second Test but struggled with the bat scoring only eight runs in his first innings and six in the second.

His lack of runs has increased the pressure on the former Pakistan captain ahead of the third Test, where expectations are likely to be high.
