Five drown after boat capsizes in River Chenab in Gujrat

GUJRAT: Five people, including three brothers who had returned from Italy, drowned after a boat carrying them capsized in the River Chenab, while rescue teams managed to save three others and continued a search operation for another missing person.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the incident took place when the three brothers, along with their friends, went to the river for a recreational trip. The boat overturned in the river, throwing all the occupants into deep water.

Rescue teams from Gujrat, Wazirabad and Gujranwala reached the site and launched a search and rescue operation. Three people were rescued alive, while the body of a 25-year-old man, identified as Faheem, was recovered and shifted to a nearby hospital.

The rescued persons were identified as 35-year-old Nadeem, 24-year-old Rahim and 35-year-old Ghulam, officials said.
Rescue officials said the search for 28-year-old Wasim was still under way late at night. The operation was being conducted in difficult conditions as rescue personnel continued searching different sections of the river.

The three brothers had reportedly returned to Pakistan from Italy and had gone to the River Chenab with their friends for an outing when the boat overturned.

The incident has caused grief among the families and residents of the area, while rescue teams remained engaged in the operation to locate the missing person.
