Maryam Nawaz inaugurates intelligence fusion centre and AI hub in Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday inaugurated the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC) and an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub in Lahore, describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening the province’s security and intelligence capabilities.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister said the newly established centre would enhance Punjab’s ability to identify potential threats at an early stage, improve coordination between security and law-enforcement agencies and enable authorities to respond more rapidly to emerging security challenges.

Maryam Nawaz said the integration of intelligence, technology and artificial intelligence would provide authorities with more effective tools to assess threats and take timely action. She said PIFTAC would particularly help reduce response times in cases involving terrorism and other serious security threats.

The chief minister also highlighted the establishment of the AI Hub, saying Punjab had become the first province in Pakistan to establish an Artificial Intelligence Hub. She termed its completion within a few months a significant achievement, noting that the concept of using AI for governance and public safety had been transformed into a practical system in a relatively short period.

According to the chief minister, the new facilities are aimed at creating a more coordinated and technology-driven security framework in Punjab. By bringing intelligence and threat assessment capabilities together, the centre is expected to facilitate faster information sharing and improve the ability of relevant institutions to assess developing situations.

Maryam Nawaz said modern technology and artificial intelligence could play an increasingly important role in addressing contemporary security challenges. She stressed the need to equip provincial institutions with advanced technological capabilities so that potential threats could be identified and addressed before they escalate.
