Paramilitary soldier martyred, another injured in AJK firing attack

MUZAFFARABAD: A paramilitary soldier was martyred and another sustained injuries after armed attackers opened indiscriminate fire at two locations along the Bagh-Tarar Khal axis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police spokesperson, security forces responded to the attack and engaged the assailants. One attacker was killed at the scene during the retaliatory action.

Security personnel recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from the slain attacker, including two hand grenades, a Kalashnikov, three magazines loaded with ammunition and a dagger.

Following the incident, law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the affected areas and launched a search operation to locate the attackers who managed to flee the scene.

The police spokesperson said security agencies were taking all necessary measures to track down those involved in the attack and bring them to justice.

He further said strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in violent and unlawful activities, stressing that no leniency would be shown towards elements targeting security personnel or civilians.

The incident has prompted heightened security measures in the area as the search operation continues.
