LAHORE: Five new padel sports courts have been inaugurated at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex, marking the start of regular sporting activities at the newly developed facility.
Punjab Sports Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar inaugurated the courts and inspected the facilities. He also played padel during his visit.
Speaking on the occasion, Khokhar said one of the five courts had been built according to international standards, while the remaining four would be available for national-level competitions and practice sessions.
He said the project had cost between Rs100 million and Rs120 million. Regular sporting activities at the newly constructed padel courts have now officially begun.
Large photographs of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar placed at the venue also drew considerable attention during the inauguration.
When the minister was asked whether the government could have avoided such large promotional photographs in the interest of austerity, Khokhar defended the decision.
He said that after spending millions of rupees on development projects, the government had the right to publicise its work.
“If we have spent millions of rupees, it is our right to publicise it. How will people know what work we have done?” the minister said.
