Francesca Scorsese says father Martin was ‘nervous’ about her acting career

Francesca Scorsese said her father, filmmaker Martin Scorsese, was “a little nervous” when she decided to pursue acting.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the 11th annual Through Her Lens luncheon in New York, Francesca said she felt “a little rebellious” while pursuing an acting career but described her father as her “rock and support system.” The event, hosted by Chanel and Tribeca, was held on Sept. 22.

“I felt a little rebellious — I’m not going to lie,” she told PEOPLE. “But yeah, he’s been my rock and my support system. And whatever makes me happy, that’s what he wants for me,” the 26-year-old added.

“Sometimes I’ll just come to him and I’ll be like, ‘Hey, by the way, I’m doing this. I hope it’s okay,’” she said. “He’s like my best friend. He knows everything about me, every little thing I’m doing. He’ll call me every day being like, ‘What are you doing? Are you doing your work?’ And I’m like, ‘Yes.’”

“He’s the best and he knows all the ins and outs of my life, whether I like it or not. But no, I’m just kidding. I love it,” she added.

Scorsese also discussed her role in the second season of Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which is in production. She joins previously announced cast members Mark Eydelshteyn and Talia Ryder.

“I’m freaking out. It’s great,” Scorsese said of landing the role. “I can’t say literally anything about it, but I’m having so much fun, and I’m so blessed and honored and meeting so many incredible people.”

Scorsese previously appeared in the HBO/Sky Atlantic series “We Are Who We Are” and films including “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” and “Roommates.” She has said she turns to her father for his “greenlight” before taking on new roles.
