Gaza reconstruction plan targets $2.45 billion

The Gaza Board of Peace has proposed a $2.45 billion reconstruction programme to be implemented over the next six months, with the plan focusing on restoring critical infrastructure, reviving economic activity and addressing urgent humanitarian needs across the Gaza Strip.

The proposed programme includes 66 initiatives aimed at rebuilding essential services and creating the foundations for Gaza’s economic recovery. Key measures include repairing border crossings, restoring electricity and water networks, and providing 25,000 portable solar power kits to help meet immediate energy needs.

The plan also includes measures to permanently seal tunnels located beneath areas identified for priority reconstruction. Officials say the measure forms part of broader efforts to make reconstruction sites safer and support the long-term redevelopment of damaged areas.

Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, said preparations were underway to finalise the reconstruction programme and move towards its implementation. He expressed hope that work on the plan would begin soon.

The proposed six-month programme represents an initial phase of a much larger reconstruction effort. According to foreign media reports, the physical damage caused by the war in Gaza has been estimated at around $35.2 billion.

The overall cost of restoring Gaza’s infrastructure and rebuilding its economy could reach approximately $71.4 billion over the next decade. The long-term reconstruction challenge is expected to involve housing, transport networks, utilities, healthcare facilities, public services and other essential infrastructure.

The six-month initiative is therefore intended to address immediate priorities while laying the groundwork for a broader, multi-year reconstruction process. The proposed projects would focus on restoring basic services and supporting economic activity as Gaza moves towards longer-term recovery.
