QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has announced public holidays across the province on the occasion of Ashura Muharram.

According to an official notification issued by the provincial government, all government offices and provincial institutions will remain closed on 9th and 10th Muharram. The decision was taken in view of the religious significance of Muharram and to facilitate citizens during the observance of Ashura.

The notification stated that the holidays will apply throughout Balochistan, allowing people to participate in religious activities and commemorations associated with the sacred days.

The announcement comes after the federal government also declared public holidays nationwide on the occasion of Ashura. The Cabinet Division issued a notification confirming that June 25 and June 26 would be observed as public holidays across the country.

Authorities have also introduced security arrangements in different areas due to Muharram processions and gatherings. In the federal capital, restrictions including a ban on pillion riding have been imposed as part of security measures, while mobile phone services will remain available.

Security agencies and local administrations have been directed to ensure proper arrangements for peaceful religious gatherings during Muharram. Officials have emphasized maintaining law and order while allowing citizens to observe religious traditions.

The provincial holiday announcement is expected to provide convenience to government employees, students, and the general public during Ashura. Citizens have been advised to follow official instructions and cooperate with security personnel during processions and events.

Muharram is observed by Muslims around the world as a month of religious importance, with Ashura marking a significant day of remembrance and reflection.
