The federal government has decided to maintain its austerity and energy conservation policies, recommending the continuation of several restrictions and cost-saving measures until June 30 as part of efforts to reduce public expenditure and manage energy consumption.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Committee on Austerity Measures held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The committee reviewed requests submitted by various ministries and divisions seeking exemptions from the existing restrictions.
After deliberations, the committee recommended extending the current austerity framework for the remainder of the fiscal period. The measures are aimed at promoting fiscal discipline, reducing unnecessary government spending, and supporting national energy-saving objectives.
As part of the revised arrangements, grocery stores and general retail outlets will be allowed to remain open until 10:00 pm. The government believes that maintaining regulated business hours will help balance commercial activity with energy conservation goals.
Speaking during the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the government’s commitment to responsible financial management and efficient use of resources. He also announced that consular services provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would remain available on Fridays to facilitate citizens seeking official documentation and other diplomatic services.
