KARACHI: Actor and producer Hareem Farooq has said her upcoming Punjabi-language film Mango Jutt is intended for audiences across Pakistan, emphasising that the project should not be viewed as entertainment exclusively for Punjabi-speaking viewers.
Farooq described the production as a challenging yet fulfilling experience. The film, which stars Faysal Quraishi and Farooq, is scheduled to release in cinemas across Pakistan and internationally on October 16.
Farooq urged audiences to approach the film with an open mind, saying its language should not limit its appeal to a particular province or community.
Her remarks highlighted the importance of recognising regional-language cinema as part of Pakistan’s broader entertainment industry. She also expressed optimism about the project, saying the response from audiences had been encouraging and expectations had continued to grow ahead of its release.
Farooq described bringing the film to the big screen as an achievement in itself, particularly given the difficulties encountered during production.
The Karachi launch also held personal significance for the actor and producer. She said visiting the city was important because of the affection and support she had received there, adding that launching her production venture without coming to Karachi would have felt incomplete.
Reflecting on the filmmaking process, Farooq praised the cast and crew for their dedication, saying everyone had contributed wholeheartedly despite demanding shooting conditions.
She recalled that the team had worked through extreme heat and cold while filming difficult scenes, with actors and crew members cooperating to overcome production challenges.
According to Farooq, there were moments when she was uncertain whether the film would ultimately be completed. However, she said she placed her trust in Allah and considered reaching the stage of preparing for the theatrical release a significant accomplishment.
The producer encouraged moviegoers to watch the film when it arrives in cinemas, expressing interest in seeing how audiences respond to the finished project.
Faysal Quraishi Highlights Family Entertainment and Romance
Quraishi, who plays the lead character in Mango Jutt, described the film as a family-oriented entertainer combining romance, comedy, music and action.
Speaking at the music launch, he said the cast had eagerly anticipated the release, adding that even his wife had repeatedly asked when the film would reach cinemas.
Quraishi explained that the romantic sequences were designed to be suitable for family viewing. He described the romance as nostalgic and caring, arguing that romantic storytelling does not necessarily make a film inappropriate for audiences watching together.
He also identified consent as an underlying theme within the story, suggesting that viewers would recognise its significance as the narrative developed.
The actor said the team had worked hard to create an entertaining cinematic experience and was now looking forward to the audience’s response.
Romantic Song and Memorable Dialogue
Discussing the soundtrack, Quraishi said he appreciated all the songs but particularly liked a romantic number featuring him and Farooq. He praised the song’s final presentation and recalled enjoying the experience of filming it with his co-star.
Farooq, meanwhile, highlighted a dialogue that she believes could resonate with viewers. The line plays on the film’s title and character, describing Mango Jutt as sweet and handsome.
Directed by Abu Aleeha, Mango Jutt also features Shamoon Abbasi, Qaiser Piya, Honey Albela, Hassan Murad and Ayesha Jahanzeb in supporting roles.
With its combination of Punjabi cultural elements, action, humour and romance, the film is preparing to reach cinema audiences on October 16. Farooq hopes its appeal will extend beyond linguistic boundaries and attract viewers from across Pakistan.
