Heavy rain hits Islamabad, CDA crews clear roads

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) sanitation teams worked through the night to drain rainwater and keep major roads, underpasses and vulnerable areas accessible after heavy rainfall disrupted parts of Islamabad.

According to field reports and documents obtained by Minute Mirror, sanitation and drainage crews were deployed across key locations as the rain continued, with teams focusing on areas prone to water accumulation and traffic disruption.

The overnight operation was aimed at ensuring that commuters could travel normally during the morning rush and that rainwater did not remain standing on major arteries.

Teams remain active through the night

CDA sanitation workers were tasked with clearing drainage gratings, removing debris and obstructions and ensuring that stormwater could flow through the city’s drainage network.

Officials said special attention was given to low-lying areas, underpasses, major highways and other points considered vulnerable to waterlogging.

“The instructions were clear. Teams must remain in the field until the situation normalizes and citizens receive maximum relief,” a senior CDA official told Minute Mirror.

The authority said field staff continued monitoring drainage points rather than waiting for complaints from residents.

Rainwater cleared from major roads

According to CDA officials, timely drainage operations helped remove accumulated rainwater from several major roads within hours, allowing traffic movement to return closer to normal.

Residents also acknowledged the response, saying that despite the heavy rainfall, several important routes remained accessible during the morning commute.

“Rain may slow down city life for a while, but the resolve of the CDA Sanitation Department never slows down,” the official said.

Monitoring continues across Islamabad

CDA officers and sanitation crews have been instructed to continue monitoring drains, stormwater channels and other vulnerable locations while unsettled weather conditions persist.

Emergency teams remain available at sensitive points, with the authority maintaining field operations to respond quickly if further heavy rain causes water accumulation or obstruction.

The CDA said its priorities during adverse weather include public safety, timely drainage, clean roads and maintaining smooth traffic movement.
