HYDERABAD: US Consul General Charles Goodman has called for closer economic cooperation between Pakistan and the United States, with a focus on expanding trade, investment and access to American technology.
Goodman made the remarks during a two-day visit to Hyderabad, where he met business leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs and participants of US exchange programmes.
During his meetings with representatives of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sindh Abadgar Board, the consul general discussed opportunities to expand investment and trade in the city’s agricultural and industrial sectors.
The discussions covered food processing, textiles, auto parts and mineral resources, including coal, marble and gypsum. Goodman also met local animal-feed producers using technology supplied by US companies Siemens and Elanco.
He welcomed an agreement aimed at simplifying fumigation requirements for soybean imports into Pakistan, saying greater efficiency in soybean imports would benefit the country’s animal-feed industry as well as businesses in both Pakistan and the US.
At the National Incubation Center, Goodman discussed the growing demand for US-developed artificial intelligence and agricultural technology solutions with technology entrepreneurs.
He also met members of the Pakistan-US Alumni Network’s Jamshoro chapter, whose work spans technology, agriculture, water management, renewable energy and education.
The consul general’s visit also included the inauguration of the Founders Museum at Lincoln Corner Hyderabad. The exhibition, focused on the history of America’s founding and its 250th anniversary, is scheduled to visit educational and cultural institutions across Sindh through December.
Goodman also held talks with Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro on irrigation, flood response and potential US investment in the province.
He later visited Colgate-Palmolive Pakistan, highlighting the contribution of American companies and technology to Pakistan’s economy.
