After more than two decades, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is finally getting a sequel, bringing one of Hollywood’s most beloved romantic comedies back into the spotlight.

The original 2003 film, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, became a fan favorite thanks to its playful storyline, memorable moments and undeniable chemistry between its two leads. Now, Paramount Pictures is developing a follow-up to the classic romantic comedy, with Hudson attached to the project as a producer.

Although details about the sequel remain limited, reports indicate that the filmmakers are hoping to bring Hudson and McConaughey back to reprise their iconic roles. Hudson originally played Andie Anderson, a magazine writer who takes on an unusual assignment to prove that she can make a man lose interest in her within 10 days. McConaughey portrayed Benjamin Berry, an advertising executive who makes a bet with his colleagues that he can make Andie fall in love with him during the same period.

Their competing plans quickly turn into an entertaining battle of romance, manipulation and unexpected emotions. The film ultimately became one of the most recognizable romantic comedies of the early 2000s.

If Hudson and McConaughey return, fans could once again see Andie and Ben together, although it is not yet known what direction the story will take. Paramount has not officially revealed the plot, release date or complete cast for the upcoming project.

Hudson has previously spoken about how strongly she believed McConaughey was the right actor to play Ben. During a 2022 discussion at BAFTA in London, the actress recalled facing disagreements with the studio over the casting process. She explained that she wanted McConaughey because of the natural energy they shared and believed their chemistry could bring something special to the movie.

According to Hudson, the pair had a competitive spirit and enjoyed challenging each other, which helped create the energetic dynamic that audiences noticed in the finished film. Her determination eventually paid off, with McConaughey becoming an essential part of the movie’s success.

The original film has also continued to benefit McConaughey financially more than 20 years after its release. During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor revealed that How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days continues to generate more residual income for him than any of his other movies.

McConaughey described the romantic comedy as a gift that continues to provide, while also calling it one of his favorite films in the genre. He noted that the movie remains particularly successful around Valentine’s Day, when interest in romantic films typically increases.

With the sequel now in development, fans of the original have plenty of reasons to be excited. If Hudson and McConaughey return, the project could reunite one of the most memorable romantic-comedy pairings of the 2000s and give audiences another chapter in Andie and Ben’s story.
