BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed four key principles for addressing the Palestinian issue, stressing the need for a political settlement and a viable two-state solution.

Xi said the first priority should be resolving the conflict through political means and advancing a two-state framework that can provide a lasting basis for peace.

Under the second principle, he called for Palestinians to govern Palestinian areas, including the West Bank and post-war Gaza, arguing that the future administration of these territories should remain in Palestinian hands.

The Chinese president’s third point focused on humanitarian concerns, emphasising the protection of civilians and ensuring their safety and basic needs during and after the conflict.

His fourth principle centred on justice and equality, with Xi stressing that any sustainable settlement should uphold fairness and respect the legitimate rights of all parties.

China has repeatedly advocated a negotiated political settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and supported efforts aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel as part of a two-state solution.
