Inspector General of Police Punjab has ordered a complete re-examination of all pending cases related to abducted women, confirming that 500 cases are still pending from the period between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2025.
Talking to the media outside the Central Police Office in Lahore, the IG, identified by his nameplate as *Kareem*, said the entire record is being retrieved for a fresh review.
> “Absolutely, we will retrieve and re-examine the complete record of all cases. The Additional IG Investigation is looking into the entire matter in the Investigation Branch. We are pulling out all the matters afresh. InshaAllah, all these cases will be resolved soon,” the IG said.
Responding to a question about the number of pending cases, he said:
> “When we initially started, these cases from 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2025 were around 3,200 in total. Now 500 remain, but we will re-examine all of them afresh.”
The IG stressed that the most crucial aspect of such cases is the safe recovery of the abducted woman.
> “What is required in this is whether the abducted woman has been recovered or not. Recovery must happen and when the abducted woman returns, one case is settled, its follow-up is a different thing,” he added.
On a question regarding the mindset of investigating officers and lack of training, the police chief agreed that continuous training was essential.
> “You are absolutely right, as things progress, things change, according to that, there is a dire need for capacity building in terms of training and we keep doing it and InshaAllah we will improve it further,” he said.
The statement comes amid Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directions to change the traditional police mindset and improve investigation of gender-based crimes.
The IG said Additional IG Investigation is heading the review process.
