India recorded the biggest Test win in their history by defeating Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the only Test match played at New Chandigarh. The dominant performance highlighted India’s superiority in all departments and set a new national record for the largest victory margin by innings in Test cricket.

After winning the toss, India built a massive first-innings total of 564 for 8 before declaring. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a brilliant 126-run knock, while KL Rahul contributed a century. Both Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant added valuable 81-run innings to strengthen India’s commanding position. Afghanistan’s most successful bowler was Mohammad Saleem, who claimed six wickets.

In reply, Afghanistan struggled against India’s bowling attack and were dismissed for just 152 runs in their first innings. Following on, the visitors failed to recover and were bowled out for 112 in their second innings. Rahmat Shah top-scored with 60 runs in the first innings, while Sediqullah Atal made 42 in the second.

India’s bowlers played a decisive role in the emphatic victory. Debutant Manav Suthar starred with six wickets in Afghanistan’s first innings, while Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar shared the responsibility of dismantling the batting line-up in the second innings.

The win surpassed India’s previous record innings victory against Afghanistan in 2018, when they won by an innings and 262 runs. For Afghanistan, this result also became the heaviest innings defeat in their Test cricket history.
