India has officially disclosed the identities of five military personnel who were killed during the military confrontation with Pakistan in May 2025.

According to Indian media reports, the government has for the first time publicly identified soldiers who died during what India refers to as “Operation Sindoor.”

Indian newspaper reports said the casualties included four personnel from the Indian Army and one member of the Indian Air Force.

Separately, the Indian Army chief described the operation as being “like a game of chess,” saying military planners were uncertain about the opponent’s next move during the confrontation.

The military escalation followed the attack in Pahalgam, after which India accused Pakistan of involvement, an allegation Islamabad strongly denied. Tensions escalated on the night of May 6-7, 2025, when both countries exchanged military actions across several areas.

Pakistan stated that its armed forces responded to the Indian strikes and claimed to have downed several Indian aircraft during the hostilities. India has disputed some of these claims, while independent verification of all battlefield losses remains limited.

The confrontation marked one of the most serious military escalations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours in recent years before tensions gradually subsided through diplomatic engagement and international efforts.
