The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI task force investigating Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance are examining a new possible ransom note and assessing its credibility, nearly eight months after she vanished from her Tucson-area home.
The sheriff’s department said Monday that the PCSD/FBI Guthrie Task Force had been made aware of the note and was also aware of social media comments about it.
“Investigators are also aware of social media comments being made regarding this note and are looking further into this and working to determine credibility,” the department said.
Authorities have not disclosed the contents, origin or intended recipient of the possible new note.
Two earlier ransom notes were released publicly in July. Both had been sent to a Tucson television station. The first, sent shortly after Guthrie disappeared, demanded $4 million in bitcoin and claimed she was safe. The second, sent on Feb. 6, claimed Guthrie had died after her abduction.

The FBI has previously said some ransom-related notes received during the investigation were determined to be illegitimate extortion attempts, while other demands remained under investigation.
No one has been arrested in connection with Guthrie’s disappearance, and authorities have not publicly identified a main suspect or person of interest.
The FBI previously released surveillance footage showing an armed, masked person appearing to tamper with a camera at Guthrie’s front door on the morning of her disappearance. The agency is seeking information that could help identify the person.
Guthrie, 84, the mother of NBC “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her residence in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson on the evening of Jan. 31, 2026. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are investigating her disappearance.
