Ishaq Dar chairs first meeting on power sector reforms

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar chaired the first meeting of the Prime Minister-constituted Committee on Power Sector Reforms in Islamabad.

The meeting focused on the government’s ongoing efforts to reform and restructure the power sector.

Officials briefed the committee on progress made under the reform and privatisation agenda. The discussion covered institutional strengthening and measures to improve the capacity of key organisations operating in the power sector.

Ishaq Dar stressed the need to place electricity consumers at the centre of the reform process. He said reforms and privatisation should lead to better services, greater efficiency and more sustainable performance.

The deputy prime minister said the reform programme must deliver measurable results. He emphasised stronger institutions and effective implementation of planned measures.

Dar also highlighted the importance of ensuring the long-term sustainability of the power sector. He called for continued efforts to improve institutional effectiveness and address challenges affecting the electricity system.

The committee is expected to monitor progress on the reform agenda and support measures aimed at improving the overall performance of the power sector.
