Pakistan to observe Defence and Martyrs Day tomorrow

Pakistan will observe Defence and Martyrs Day tomorrow to honour the martyrs and Ghazis who defended the country and to reaffirm the national resolve to protect the motherland against all threats.

The day commemorates the events of September 6, 1965, when Indian forces crossed the international border during the night and launched an attack on Pakistan.

The nation responded with courage and unity, while the armed forces resisted the offensive. The day is observed every year to remember the sacrifices of soldiers and civilians and to pay tribute to those who defended the country.

The day’s commemorations will begin with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital. A 21-gun salute will be held in the provincial capitals.

Special prayers will also be offered in mosques after Fajr prayers. Worshippers will pray for the country’s peace, progress and prosperity.

Prayers will also be offered for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and their right to freedom.

Various activities will be held to highlight the sacrifices and services of Pakistan’s armed forces. The occasion will provide an opportunity to recall the courage displayed during the 1965 war and the spirit of national unity that emerged during the conflict.
