A Palestinian woman was killed and two other people, including a girl, were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City early Wednesday, as attacks and demolitions continued despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025.
The latest strike hit a building in the Rimal neighbourhood, causing extensive damage to the targeted apartment and surrounding structures, according to medical sources and witnesses.
A medical source at Al-Shifa Hospital told Anadolu that the body of Reem Asaad Awad, 33, and the two injured people were brought to the facility following the attack.
The airstrike also triggered a large fire that spread through the affected area before civil defence crews managed to extinguish it.
The incident highlights the continuing danger faced by Palestinian civilians despite the ceasefire agreement, with reports of Israeli military fire, explosive devices and demolitions emerging from several parts of the besieged territory.
In the Tuffah neighbourhood, northeast of Gaza City, witnesses reported heavy firing by Israeli military vehicles and quadcopter drones towards Palestinian homes. Explosive devices were also dropped on Al-Sikka Street in the surrounding area.
Separately, Israeli forces carried out a large-scale demolition operation, blowing up residential buildings in areas east of Gaza City where Israeli troops are deployed, sources said.
Attacks reported across central Gaza
Violence was also reported in the central Gaza Strip, where Israeli military vehicles and bulldozers advanced beyond areas under the army’s control east of Deir al-Balah, according to witnesses.
Gunfire struck homes along Salah al-Din Street, east of the city, spreading fear among residents. No casualties were reported in that incident.
Israeli artillery also shelled areas northeast of the Bureij refugee camp, while a drone dropped an explosive device on a tent. No injuries were reported in either incident.
The latest reports add to mounting concerns over the durability of the ceasefire, which was intended to reduce violence and provide relief to a population devastated by more than two years of war.
Gaza death toll continues to rise
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli violations of the October 2025 ceasefire have killed at least 1,498 Palestinians and wounded 5,306 others.
The wider toll since October 2023 is considerably higher. More than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 175,000 injured in Israeli attacks, according to the figures cited in the report.
The destruction has also left Gaza’s civilian infrastructure in ruins, with around 90 per cent of the enclave’s infrastructure damaged or destroyed.
Residential buildings, hospitals, roads and other essential facilities have suffered extensive damage during the conflict, worsening conditions for people already struggling with displacement and limited access to basic services.
Wednesday’s deadly airstrike and reports of further military operations underscore the continuing risks facing civilians across Gaza, even as the ceasefire remains in place.
For residents of the territory, repeated attacks and the destruction of homes have left little sense of security, raising renewed questions about whether the truce can prevent further bloodshed.
