He later moved into private investment. In 2000, he stepped down as chief executive of APN News & Media.
In 2003, O’Reilly founded the private investment fund Bayard Capital.
He later acquired Swiss metering company Landis+Gyr and became its chief executive. Toshiba subsequently acquired the company in 2011 in a deal reportedly worth $2.3 billion.
Jemima and Cameron reportedly met through their professional connection to the film and documentary industry.
At the time, O’Reilly was working as an executive producer on several documentaries and films.
The two initially became friends before their relationship developed into a romance.
A close friend of Jemima had previously said that the pair had known each other for a considerable period.
