JI ends Rawalpindi sit-in, warns of Islamabad march

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has ended its sit-in in Rawalpindi against the petroleum levy and rising inflation, while protests in Karachi and Lahore continue.

A JI delegation is scheduled to hold talks with the government’s negotiating team today to discuss the party’s demands, particularly a reduction in petrol prices and relief from rising living costs.

JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the party would closely assess the outcome of the negotiations. He warned that if the government failed to take concrete measures to reduce petrol prices and provide relief to the public, the JI would announce a march towards Islamabad.

The JI has been protesting against the increase in the petroleum levy and the impact of higher fuel prices on the cost of living. The party has demanded measures to reduce the financial burden on consumers and control inflation.

Meanwhile, Hafiz Naeem also held a telephone conversation with Awami National Party (ANP) President Aimal Wali Khan. During the conversation, the JI emir invited the ANP leader to join the ongoing protest movement.

Aimal Wali accepted the invitation and agreed to participate in the sit-in.

The JI is expected to decide its next course of action after the government talks. The party has made clear that failure to achieve tangible progress on its demands could lead to an escalation of the protest campaign, including a possible march towards the federal capital.
