Kanika Kapoor announces separation after four years of marriage

Indian singer Kanika Kapoor has announced her separation from her husband, Gautam Hathiramani, four years after their wedding in London.

The 48-year-old singer shared the news through an Instagram statement on Tuesday, confirming that the couple had decided to end their marriage after careful consideration. However, she did not disclose the reason behind their separation.

In her statement, Kanika expressed gratitude for the time they had spent together and wished her husband well for the future. She also requested privacy and understanding from friends, family and fans as they begin separate chapters of their lives.

Kanika and Gautam, a London-based businessman, had known each other for nearly 15 years before their relationship developed into romance. The singer previously revealed that she had proposed to him twice, in 2014 and 2020. Gautam eventually proposed in August 2021.

The couple tied the knot on May 20, 2022, in a wedding ceremony held in London. Kanika’s children also played special roles in the celebrations. Her son, Yuvraaj, accompanied her to the wedding mandap, while her daughters, Aayana and Samara, stood beside her during the traditional wedding rituals.

The separation marks the end of Kanika’s second marriage. She previously married businessman Raj Chandok in 1998, when she was 18. The former couple have three children together and separated in 2012. Following their separation, Kanika returned to India to pursue her music career.

She rose to widespread fame in 2014 with the hit song Baby Doll from the film Ragini MMS 2. She subsequently delivered several popular tracks, including Lovely from Happy New Year, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan and Da Da Dasse from Udta Punjab.

Despite announcing the separation, Kanika has chosen to keep the personal circumstances surrounding the decision private.
