The University of Karachi (KU) on Thursday added eight refurbished buses to its transport fleet at a ceremony held at the university’s point-bus terminal, as it seeks to address transport challenges faced by students and staff.
The buses were repaired and refurbished by town chairmen backed by the Jamaat-e-Islami party, following a request from the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT), the university’s student organisation, according to the report. The university had acquired the buses from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
The town chairmen had approached the university administration and offered to refurbish the buses in phases. Initially, eight buses were taken up for renovation by various town chairmen and later handed back to the university’s transport unit.
KU Vice Chancellor Professor Waseem Qazi thanked those involved for their support, saying the university faced growing transport needs.
