PESHAWAR: Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati has written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urging the federal government to help implement the recommendations agreed upon during the KP Peace Jirga 2025.
In his letter, Swati recalled that the provincial assembly had established a special committee on security to examine the province’s law and order situation and engage with relevant stakeholders. The committee held consultations with the provincial government, governor, political representatives and other concerned parties before the peace jirga was convened on November 12, 2025.
The gathering brought together political leaders elected representatives and other stakeholders from across the province. After detailed discussions on the security situation, participants reached consensus on a joint declaration aimed at promoting peace stability and public confidence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Swati said the declaration had previously been forwarded to the prime minister’s office for consideration. He has now called for practical steps to ensure that its recommendations are acted upon.
The speaker has described the declaration as a framework for addressing the province’s security challenges through consultation and cooperation among political and institutional stakeholders. The official document also states that the assembly’s Special Committee on Security will continue its consultative work and seek input from security and law-enforcement authorities.
The Peace Jirga was attended by representatives of various political parties, government officials, tribal elders civil society members and other stakeholders. Its discussions focused on developing a broader approach to improving security and achieving sustainable peace in the province.
Swati’s latest request comes as security concerns remain a major issue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He has called for greater coordination between the federal and provincial governments and urged authorities to give due consideration to the recommendations agreed upon through the jirga process.
The speaker has also stressed the importance of protecting citizens’ lives and property while working towards lasting peace in the province.
