Government vehicles assigned to former members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet have reportedly not been returned, despite the imposition of emergency measures in the province, raising questions about the recovery of official assets.
According to sources, several former provincial ministers continue to use government-owned vehicles even after leaving their cabinet positions. Some former ministers, advisers and special assistants reportedly have three to four official vehicles each.
Sources have also revealed that some former parliamentary secretaries still possess government vehicles, although they no longer hold their previous positions in the provincial administration.
In another development, certain private social media personalities are also reportedly using government vehicles. However, sources said that some former cabinet members have already returned the vehicles assigned to them.
The continued use of official vehicles by former government officials has drawn attention to the management and recovery of public assets. Government vehicles are generally allocated to officials for official duties, and their retention after the end of an assignment may require review under the applicable rules and procedures.
Sources added that the relevant authorities are examining the matter and reviewing the status of vehicles issued to former cabinet members and other individuals. The review is expected to help establish which vehicles remain in use, who currently possesses them and whether the necessary return procedures have been completed.
No official figure for the total number of unreturned vehicles has been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the authorities have set a deadline for their recovery.
