Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed has said that the provincial police require between Rs30 billion and Rs40 billion to strengthen security arrangements and improve policing infrastructure in 12 districts.
He said discussions were under way with the federal government to secure the required funds for the proposed initiatives.
Speaking about the security improvement plan, the provincial police chief said four key areas had been identified for special attention in the 12 districts. The main focus would be on providing modern weapons, drones and other essential equipment to improve the operational capabilities of police personnel.
He added that authorities were also prioritising the completion of Safe City projects in all 12 districts to strengthen surveillance and improve security monitoring.
Zulfiqar Hameed said the police aimed to complete Safe City projects across all the targeted districts within one year.
Highlighting the challenges in the merged districts, the IG said these areas previously lacked proper police infrastructure. He said the government would establish the necessary facilities and strengthen the existing policing system to improve law enforcement.
He further explained that areas with weak police infrastructure would be upgraded, while the shortage of police personnel would also be addressed. Specialised training would be provided to officers and personnel to improve their professional skills and ability to deal with security challenges.
The IG also revealed that a summary regarding salary increases for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police personnel had been prepared.
He said the Finance Department would review the proposals and provide its recommendations before the summary was forwarded to the governor for consideration.
The proposed measures are aimed at improving police capacity, modernising security operations and strengthening law enforcement across the province, particularly in the merged districts and other areas facing security challenges.
