PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said he does not expect Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to reach Islamabad on September 27, amid the party’s announced plans for political activity in the federal capital.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Kundi questioned what the PTI would achieve by reaching Islamabad, asking whether the party’s founder would be released if its supporters managed to reach the capital.
He said the PTI founder had been convicted by the courts and would have to serve his sentences before being released. Kundi maintained that political activity or a protest in Islamabad would not change the judicial process.
The governor also said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz should not feel threatened by other provinces. He urged political leaders to avoid statements that could increase tensions between the provinces.
Kundi said the Punjab chief minister should be treated as a member of the family and remarked that such statements should be avoided at a time when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needs peace and unity.
Commenting on the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the governor said Chief Minister Sohail Afridi himself appeared during the street movement in Punjab. He claimed that Afridi moved around with security personnel rather than PTI workers and later left Punjab.
