LAHORE: Lahore police have arrested 6,084 suspected drug peddlers and registered 5,870 cases during an ongoing anti-narcotics crackdown this year, recovering large quantities of illegal drugs and liquor, according to a police spokesperson.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddiq Kamiana said on Tuesday that the campaign would continue until the city was made drug-free.

In a statement, the CCPO directed police officers to intensify operations against drug suppliers and dealers, stressing that everyone involved in the narcotics trade must be brought to justice.

He also ordered authorities to step up surveillance and enforcement against drug peddlers operating near educational institutions, with particular emphasis on protecting students from exposure to narcotics.

The CCPO further called for strict legal action against individuals involved in the online sale and purchase of illegal drugs, directing officers to target emerging methods used to distribute narcotics.

According to the police spokesperson, the crackdown has resulted in the recovery of 2,200 kilogrammes of charas, 720kg of ice, or crystal methamphetamine, 113kg of heroin, 439kg of cannabis and 53kg of opium.

Police also seized more than 25,000 litres of liquor during the operations.

The recoveries highlight the scale of the ongoing enforcement campaign and the range of narcotics being targeted by law enforcement agencies across Lahore.

Kamiana reiterated that police would maintain pressure on drug networks and pursue those involved in the manufacture, supply and distribution of illegal substances.

He particularly emphasised dismantling the supply chain and preventing drug dealers from operating around schools, colleges and other educational institutions.

The police chief said sustained action was necessary to curb the availability of narcotics and strengthen efforts to make Lahore drug-free.

The crackdown is continuing, with officers directed to intensify enforcement and ensure that those involved in drug peddling face legal proceedings.
