LHC justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh resigns

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh has resigned from his position as a judge, bringing his tenure on the bench to an end.

Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh had been appointed as a judge of the Lahore High Court on May 7, 2021. He was originally due to retire in 2036.

In a statement following his resignation, Justice Raheel Kamran said serving on the bench had been a great honour and a source of pride for him. He said he had decided to pursue new areas of professional work, including legal scholarship, policy research and comparative judicial practice.

Reflecting on his time as a judge, he described his years on the bench as some of the most significant and professionally fulfilling years of his career. He said the experience had provided him with an opportunity to contribute to the administration of justice and uphold constitutional and legal principles.

Justice Raheel Kamran said he was leaving the bench with an unwavering commitment to the rule of law and the Constitution. He expressed his resolve to continue contributing to the legal and judicial discourse through research and academic work after stepping down from judicial office.

He has sent a copy of his resignation to the Registrar of the Lahore High Court, formally communicating his decision to relinquish the judicial position.
