Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the Social Security Mobile Health Programme to bring medical services directly to industrial workers and their families, aiming to improve access to healthcare across the province.

The programme’s first phase is designed to benefit more than 4.6 million workers and their family members in Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura. Under the initiative, mobile hospitals, dental units and health bikes are planned to deliver medical services at workplaces and homes, making healthcare more accessible to people who may face difficulties visiting hospitals.

According to media reports, the programme is expected to expand to 12 additional districts by March 2027. The initiative aims to promote early diagnosis, facilitate timely medical treatment and reduce the burden on major hospitals by providing healthcare services closer to residential areas and workplaces.

During a visit to Nawaz Sharif Social Security Hospital, Maryam Nawaz interacted with patients and observed the healthcare facilities available to them. One particularly touching moment came when an elderly woman offered prayers and blessings for the chief minister during their interaction.
The initiative focuses on extending healthcare services beyond traditional hospital settings, particularly for industrial workers and their dependents. By taking medical facilities directly to communities and workplaces, the programme aims to make essential healthcare services easier to access.
The planned expansion to more districts is expected to extend the programme’s reach across Punjab. Its effectiveness will depend on the implementation of the proposed services, their availability to eligible workers and families, and the continued provision of medical facilities in the targeted areas.
