Maryam Nawaz orders immediate fare cuts after fuel price relief

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to take immediate measures to reduce public transport and goods transportation fares across the province following the government’s significant reduction in petroleum prices.

Welcoming the decrease in fuel costs, the chief minister emphasized that the financial relief provided through lower petrol and diesel prices must be passed on directly to the public. She instructed relevant departments to ensure that transport operators adjust fares accordingly so that citizens can fully benefit from the government’s decision.

Maryam Nawaz praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his economic team for delivering substantial relief through the reduction in petroleum prices. She said the prime minister had fulfilled his commitment to lowering fuel costs once regional conditions stabilized and market pressures eased.

The chief minister described the government’s management of energy-related challenges as a major achievement, noting that Pakistan successfully avoided a potential energy crisis despite uncertainties caused by regional developments.

She also commended the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying their efforts helped safeguard the country from economic and energy-related difficulties during a challenging period.

The directive comes after a significant cut in fuel prices, a move expected to lower transportation costs, ease inflationary pressure and provide relief to consumers and businesses across Punjab.
