PESHAWAR: A woman was killed and her husband injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a couple travelling on a motorcycle in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, rescue officials said on Saturday.
The shooting occurred in the Haryankot area of Dargai tehsil in Malakand district, where the couple was targeted while riding through the locality, according to Rescue 1122 officials.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the attack. Medical personnel provided initial treatment to the injured man before transferring him, along with the woman’s body, to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Dargai.
Rescue officials identified the injured man as Amir Nawab, approximately 40 years old, while the deceased woman was identified as Irshada, around 35 years old. Both were residents of Haryankot.
Authorities said the motive behind the attack was not immediately known and no arrests had been reported as of Saturday evening.
Police officers collected evidence from the scene and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators are examining possible motives and attempting to identify those responsible for the attack.
Incidents involving targeted shootings and personal disputes occasionally occur in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, although authorities have not indicated whether the latest attack was linked to any specific motive.
The injured man remained under medical treatment, officials said.
