LAHORE: A new weather system is expected to enter Pakistan on Sunday, bringing rain and strong winds to Lahore and several districts across Punjab, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said, offering potential relief from intense heat and humidity.
According to the weather forecast issued on Saturday, the incoming system is likely to trigger light to heavy rainfall in various parts of the province over a three-day period. Meteorologists said the change in weather conditions could significantly reduce temperatures and ease humid conditions that have affected residents in recent weeks.
Lahore, the provincial capital, is expected to experience cloudy weather on Saturday, although the likelihood of rainfall remains low. The city’s minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is forecast to reach around 40 degrees Celsius.
Weather officials said dust-laden winds and rain associated with the system are expected to affect much of Punjab beginning Sunday. The department has advised authorities to complete precautionary arrangements ahead of the expected weather activity.
The forecast has prompted local agencies to prepare for possible urban flooding and water accumulation in low-lying areas. Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Ghufran Ahmed, issued an alert directing operational staff to remain on duty and ensure prompt drainage of rainwater during any precipitation event.
Officials said emergency and field teams would remain deployed to respond to weather-related situations and maintain drainage operations where necessary.
Punjab has experienced periods of extreme heat and humidity in recent weeks, increasing demand for relief through seasonal rainfall. Meteorologists said the approaching system could provide temporary respite for residents and improve weather conditions across large parts of the province.
The weather department said it would continue monitoring the system and issue updated forecasts if required.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay informed about weather developments and take necessary precautions during periods of strong winds or heavy rainfall.
